About the organization:

The Orillia Concert Band, established in 1986, is a 55-member recreational band based in the Orillia area, featuring wind, brass, and percussion instruments. The mission statement of the OCB is: Be a quality concert band for the Orillia and district area; Serve as a vehicle for experienced amateur musicians to further develop and maintain their skills; Perform traditional and contemporary concert band repertoire; and Promote Canadian music by programming Canadian music by programming Canadian music and featuring Canadian soloists.

Proposed Project Start Date:
December 5, 2026

Proposed Project End Date:
December 12, 2026

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

The Orillia Concert Band (OCB) performs a pair of Christmas concerts on the first Saturday of Dec, one the formal evening Christmas Prelude concert and a special family friendly afternoon concert, designed to appeal to the younger (or young at heart) audience. Additionally, the OCB hires local choirs to participate in the concerts, a senior choir for the evening and a children’s choir for the afternoon concert. Both concerts are also live streamed (at additional expense) to bring the concerts to those who cannot attend in person. The CFOA funds would be used to offset concert expenses, especially those associated with putting on the family friendly Afternoon Christmas Concert.

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

The venue holds an audience of 400, times two concerts, plus the concerts will be live streamed with a historical audience of l00 viewers a concert. Additionally, the concerts are recorded and are available on the OCB’s YouTube channel for viewing any time during the Christmas season.

Please list any partnerships and collaborations for this project:

There are no direct partnerships or collaborations specific to this pair of concerts. The OCB has a number of sponsors (for example Dapper Depot is the OCB’s season sponsor), whose contributions go to OCB General Revenues, which are used to help offset OCB operational costs, like insurance, music, rehearsal hall rental, etc.

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

With the exception of the Band Director, all participants in the concerts are volunteers. When you add volunteer ushers it brings the total to just over 60 volunteers. We also encourage high school students to volunteer, and their time counts as community service time.

How will success be evaluated?

By the buzz in the community how the OCB kicked off the Christmas season in style and how much the children enjoyed being exposed to live big band music.
