About the organization:

To improve lives and build communities by leveraging collective resources and mobilizing collective action to achieve the greatest impact.

Proposed Project Start Date:
April 1, 2026

Proposed Project End Date:
March 31, 2027

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

The Home Relief Bank was launched in 2025 and provides is a proactive solution to prevent homelessness. The HRB supports lower to middle income tenants/homeowners to stay in their homes during temporary unforeseen circumstances. These interest free loans will cover 2 months rent/mortgage payments, repayable over 3 years, allow families and individuals to overcome illness, relationship breakups, or emergency home repairs without the fear of eviction. https://uwsimcoemuskoka.ca/homereliefbank/

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

It is anticipated with grants provided in 2025 and the economic situation and as more people become aware of the program we will be increase our funding to 7 to 10 families in Orillia and area in 2026.

Please list any partnerships and collaborations for this project:

Orillia partners with Empower Simcoe to manage the program in the Orillia area.

Testimonial: “We were facing eviction and possibly losing our children. The Home Relief Bank helped us keep our housing and stay together as a family. Thank you for your kindness and helping us not just financially but in stabilizing our housing and securing a future for our family.” Provided by Empower Simcoe

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

There are no in-kind or volunteer opportunities for this program

How will success be evaluated?

Each application is thoroughly reviewed to ensure recipients meet all eligibility requirements, including having stable employment to return to and the capacity to repay the loan within the three‑year timeframe. These loans are intended to support individuals facing immediate hardship, particularly those at risk of losing their housing due to unforeseen circumstances. UWSM believes that providing temporary, targeted assistance helps keep people housed and reduces the strain on both families and the broader community.
