About the organization:

At Arts Orillia, we believe in the transformative power of the arts. Our mission is to create dynamic arts experiences that bring people together, with a special focus on youth engagement and supporting diverse artistic voices. From music and dance to theatre and visual arts, we provide opportunities for creative expression that inspire individuals, foster connections, and enrich our community. At Arts Orillia, we are dedicated to supporting artists, empowering youth, and building strong community partnerships.

Proposed Project Start Date:
September 26, 2026

Proposed Project End Date:
September 26, 2026

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

Teen Art Night is an opportunity for teenagers in Orillia to explore their creativity without the pressure of perfection. The evening features hands-on artistic activities including painting, drawing, jewelry making, sculpting, and more, with all materials provided. Local art mentors will be on site to offer support and guidance to the participants and share their expertise. The event also includes a clothing swap, encouraging sustainability by inviting all attendees to exchange clothes, with any leftovers responsibly donated to local organizations. Participants will also enjoy live music by young Orillia artists, light refreshments, and a chance to be inspired and connect with their community.

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

Teen Art Night will directly benefit 50 youth from Orillia, providing an opportunity to build creative confidence, explore new artistic skills, and form meaningful connections. Indirectly, the project will benefit families, local artists, and the community by creating inclusion, creativity, and engagement in Orillia’s growing art scene.

Please list any partnerships and collaborations for this project:

Teen Art Night is made possible thanks to strong partnerships and community collaboration:
* Creative Nomad Studios is providing the venue, art materials, and mentor support.
* The City of Orillia is contributing promotional assistance and community outreach.
* The Fuel Innovation Program is supporting youth engagement and creative development.
* Barbra Sternberg has agreed to partner with us and share her new avant-garde installation during the night.
Together, these partners are helping to make Teen Art Night an inspiring and inclusive event for Orillia’s next generation of artists.

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

In-kind contributions and volunteer labour for Teen Art Night will come from several community partners:
* Creative Nomad Studios is generously providing some of the materials.
* Eclectic Cafe will be providing refreshments and treats for participants.
* Steph Whalen and Sean Rees will be contributing their guidance and expertise as mentors.
* Local musicians Lincoln Baragar and Jacob Audia will contribute live performances, adding to the creative atmosphere.
* Volunteers for the clothing swap stations will also be contributing.

How will success be evaluated?

Success will be evaluated by the number of attendees and participant feedback. When Arts Orillia launched this event in January 2026, 50 teenagers attended. The resounding feedback was that Teen Art Night contributed to better mental health during high school exam time. Participants, once again, will share their thoughts with a suggestion box, helping us understand their experiences, what they learned, and how the event impacted their confidence and creativity. This combination of quantitative and qualitative evaluation will help guide future Teen Art Night events.
