About the organization:

The Orillia Youth Centre provides a safe, inclusive space for youth ranging from ages 11-17yrs. The OYC is staffed with dedicated youth workers to assist youth with finding jobs, working on self esteem and personal growth through goal identifying and retaining, and supporting youth through their teen years by promoting healthy living and referrals to community agencies if needed. Our main goal as a OYC team is to provide youth with existing links to community program’s for development, and most importantly develop and support those opportunities to harvest personal growth.

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

The Orillia Youth Centre promotes Summer outings and youth outdoor recreational venues for the months of July and August. These months are dedicated to fun, inclusive outings to several Provincial Parks in the area, as well as possible outings to other jurisdictions to provide some adventure and unique opportunities that youth would otherwise not experience.
Funds would be used for the following:
– Transportation by Bus Charter (to and from Parks)
– Food (lunches, snacks and dinner)
– Entrance to Parks/Payments of rental portions of outings ( 2 Provincial Parks in Summer)
– Staff Wages

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

The overall youth participation for this summer initiatives would see up to 20-25 youth. The OYC also has a huge inflex of youth through our doors, and specifically during our posted outing days. We welcome youth from all backgrounds over the entire year, but specifically in the summer we see an inflex of new youth.

Our community support for our Provincial Park outings is the Orillia Lions Club, who will be requested to assist with our BBQ portion of the day. With the support from Lions Club, it frees up OYC staff to partake or run activities for the day, and in return the Lions Club assist with serving up to 25 youth a BBQ lunch. The Lions Club has been a huge support for the OYC and continues to assist and show interest during our busy summer months.

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

Lions Club o Orillia to support our Provincial Park outings:
– Assist with BBQ
– Partake in any activities if desired.
– Up to 4 hrs of volunteered support for day(s)

How will success be evaluated?

The success of the Provincial Park outings, will be measured by the amount of youth we have out to enjoy and partake in this initiative. We have in past instances observed 20-25 youth for this popular outing, with many requests from parents and guardians during the lead up to summer break, as to when we will be offering these summer outings. Success from our point of view, is always getting youth outside and enjoying the outdoors, free from social devices and off couches.
