About the organization:

The Ramara Township Public Library serves the area of Ramara with a total population of just under 10,500 residents. With two branches and a collection of a variety of items, we are always looking for ways to improve and expand access, resources and services for the community we serve. Our expanding Library of Things has been growing and gaining attention as a way to bring non-traditional items (such as cooking tools) to households. However, these items are expensive and difficult to keep up with financially as a charitable organization. This grant would provide opportunity for us to expand this collection and thus adding resources to our community members.

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

If successful, the grant funds would be used to build our Library of Things collection, including Launchpads (pre-loaded educational tablets that do not require internet to use), Wonderbooks (pre-loaded picture books that include audio options), videogames such as Nintendo Switch, a WiFi Hub to loan for use and a bike repair kit to assist our community members on the trail or at home to get around our community. These items provide educational resources, entertainment, and connectivity to Ramara. By investing in our resources, we directly invest in the people.

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

If successful, the funds would be used to build our Library of Things collection, which residents of Ramara (10,377) have access to with their library card for free. The residents of Chippewas of Rama First Nation and Severn Township would also be able to access with their reciprocal borrowing privileges.

How will success be evaluated?

Success will be evaluated through the number of checkouts of the items throughout the year. We anticipate that these items will be highly circulated based on previous interest in the collection as well as knowing what community needs are with limited internet access, low income and high interest in technological items.

Wonderbooks (average cost $50 each) are picture books that include an audio component to let children enjoy on their own, listen to when out and about or as an accessibility factor for families. Nintendo Switch videogames (average cost $50 each) are electronic games for Nintendo Switch devices., Portable kit that includes 23 pieces to repair, maintain or upgrade a road/mountain bike.
