About the organization:

The Couchiching Conservancy is a non-profit land trust that protects over 15,000 acres of environmentally significant land in Ramara, Orillia, Severn and Oro-Medonte. Over 300 volunteers steward the land and participate in community science projects, sharing the collected data with scientists.

Volunteers assess water quality of nature reserves, monitor bats, pull invasive plant species and count and identify plant and animal species at risk (e.g. Blanding’s Turtle, Rusty Patched Bumble Bee and Monarch Butterflies).

For people to protect nature, they must first love nature so we run ‘Passport To Nature’, an annual program with multiple free and low-cost environmental events

Proposed Project Start Date:
June 2, 2026

Proposed Project End Date:
June 30, 2026

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

Couchiching Conservancy’s office is the foundation for the land conservation work we do in the community and we would like to purchase some needed office equipment. To build donor confidence, we’d like to upgrade our board room tables, from temporary folding plastic, to a local, second hand wooden conference table.

Employee productivity and retention improves with support for well-being. To address the health of those working long hours at a computer, we’d like to provide ergonomic office chairs.

To remain in compliance with CRA regulations, we’d like to purchase an additional filing cabinet to store growing financial records.

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

Our organization is powered by major donors. These relationships start in our office around a table. Securing long-term financial giving is the first step to funding conservation work that gives flood protection to more than 80,000 people in Orillia, Ramara, Severn and Oro Medonte. Office furniture will directly support 16 staff.

Please list any partnerships and collaborations for this project:

Unfortunately, this project does not have confirmed collaborations.

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

Volunteers will be required for transportation of the furniture from the local point of purchase in Barrie to our office in Severn.

How will success be evaluated?

Success will be evaluated by the organization’s ability to procure and implement the necessary items within the budget, thereby improving workspace function, health and funding meetings.
