About the organization:

The guiding vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia & District is for all young people to realize
their full potential. It is our mission to enable life-changing relationships that help mitigate the
societal barriers and adversities that children and youth face. We facilitate these positive mentoring
relationships by providing free direct service to youth and families who are seeking a mentor.

Proposed Project Start Date:
July 1, 2026

Proposed Project End Date:
July 31, 2027

Please briefly describe the project and how the funds will be used:

We are requesting funding to expand youth mentoring both through group programming and one-to-one matches. This would include:

– Piloting two 7-week summer group programs for youth aged 10-14 focused on healthy living, self-esteem, and positive relationships.
– Supporting 2 new community-based matches, in response to a recent increase in volunteer prospects.

Funding would go directly to supporting these programs such as volunteer training, program materials and healthy snacks, cost of programming space, and ongoing match support.

How many people will benefit from the project directly and indirectly within the geographic area covered by the CFOA:

Our agency will provide group programming to up to 14 children at no cost, directly impacting them and their
families. Through our one to one programming, we will provide direct support to 2 youth for the entire year as well as indirectly support their families and siblings through snack bag programs, holiday supports, and monthly events.

Please list any partnerships and collaborations for this project:

Please describe any in kind contributions/volunteer labour connected to this project:

Our organization relies on volunteers to fulfill mentoring relationships. Four trained volunteers (ages 18–30) will facilitate group sessions, contributing their time to programming and mentorship. Additionally, two long-term volunteer mentors will be matched with youth for community-based mentoring.

How will success be evaluated?

As a member of BBBS Canada, we follow National guidelines and standards that ensure our programming is both safe and impactful for the youth participants. Our Mentoring Coordinators closely monitor matches through in-person meetings with the volunteers, youth, and the youth’s family. These meetings are used as a way to gauge the match through a series of questions. They also act as a way to support everyone involved in the match and continue to build stronger, more resilient relationships.
